The RNLI has 237 lifeboat stations around the UK and the Republic of Ireland and 349 operational lifeboats.
6 of these are in Essex –Harwich, Walton & Frinton, Clacton, West Mersea, Burnham-on-Crouch and Southend-on-Sea. In fact, Southend-on-Sea is the busiest coastal Lifeboat Station in the country, launching 148 times in 2016, rescuing 100 people.
Our rescue services continue to be in high demand. In 2016 our Essex crews launched a total of 387 times and rescued 392 people. The volunteer crews trained for over 4452 hours and were on service for over 2245 hours. They are all volunteers, ready to drop whatever they're doing when their pager sounds. They're always ready to save lives at sea and are funded purely by voluntary donations
Around 170 people drown around the UK coast each year. We want to half coastal fatalities in the UK and Republic of Ireland by 2024.
We need your help to fund the lifesaving work of the volunteer crews at the Essex Lifeboat Stations
The volunteer crews are all members of the local community. They live and work close enough to the lifeboat stations to be able to respond day or night to their pagers when someone is in trouble at sea.
The need the very best training and equipment to keep themselves safe, and to enable quick and effective responses to any call out they may have. They train every week, whatever the weather to ensure their skills are top notch, and have world class casualty care training. They are there to help and protect anyone who gets into trouble – they don’t judge, they simply want to help.
They are purely funded by voluntary contributions, receiving no government funding at all.
With your help they can continue to saves lives at sea
